What do you think about trans women using female bathrooms? I don't care if you want to pretend to be a girl on your own time or parade around downtown in a dress, but I think it's appalling to have penis-laden transgender people demanding to use women's bathrooms.

This isn't about equality - this about common sense.

I want to get your thoughts on this, /lgbt/

but honestly as long as your not going to some run down gas station most men's rooms are pretty decent.

I remember when I was ~13 these men were harassing me, they followed me when I tried to get away from them and the only place they couldn't follow me to was the women's bathroom. I hid out there until they got bored and left. No one should be the victim of violence just for using the bathroom, but sex segregated bathrooms are a way of *avoiding* violence too.

There is value in not making all bathrooms gender neutral.

You have to get used to it sooner or later. If you pass, there's not really a reason to go into the mens room anymore.
As long as I don't slip on all the feces, I don't know why I should care about how sanitary the place is. When I sit my weight is on the fabric of my pants, the only thing I touch are the door handles and unused toilet paper. And then I wash my hands. Why worry?
Heck, even so, you can still go into a cabin and piss standing if you so wish to.

There's really no reason a male couldn't be harassed in the same way, and the bathroom wouldn't protect them. And, there's no magical force preventing men from entering the woman's bathroom if they're intent on harassing you. I think the best solution is to set up stalls so they can only have one occupant at a time (i.e. by having a lock that can only be opened from the inside), and set up security cameras watching the area outside the stalls.

Bathrooms do offer protection. The force is a strongly engrained social taboo. You know 99% of people will wait in a long ass line for the right bathroom rather than go to the empty wrong one because of it.

Stalls with one occupant at a time are ideal, but most places have multiple stall bathrooms, and the question is whether or not to convert them. I think half neutral and half sex-segregated is an okay solution. Like buildings could have odd numbered floors sex-segregated, even numbered floors unisex. Not perfect but hey.

I meant men harassing boys in that ituation.

I assumed in that situation there was no one else around, otherwise you could have asked them for help. If there's no one around, no one is going to see the guy following a girl into the bathroom, and if he's intent on raping her or something the taboo isn't going to stop him.

Gay male, any pre op transexual should be using the bathroom of there current physical gender not there chosen gender. If you are post op obviously you would use the appropriate bathroom for your current gender. This is why I think gender neutral bathrooms would be a good idea, not everyone is comfortable with sharing a restroom with someone with different genitals. While I can understand trans people feeling this is unfair to them they seem to forget that what they want may be unfair to someone else.

Is there a logical reason why MtFs should absolutely have SRS in order to use the women's restroom, but not FtMs for the men's room? Wouldn't lacking a D be a huge issue for FtMs trying to take a piss in a crowded men's restroom where all but the urinals are available? Why are standards almost unreasonably strict for MtFs, yet relaxed for FtMs?

I could understand it carrying weight in regards to changing rooms/showers, but when you're in a stall? In such a situation passing should be more important than what you have in your pants, and passing's already a tall order for most MtFs.
