I work at clothing retail.

I would not call my life as trans miserable. I am well adjusted, financially secure and socially active.

However, I would still more than happily take every aspect of being a natural woman just to be complete. I am no hypocrite, I wouldn't choose just the good parts of being a girl without the less attractive.

Being a healthy trans girl is a huge compromise. You have to accept that there are many things you won't have or be able to do reasonably. I would love to simplify it all by just switching my body over. But that is not to say I am unhappy, just that I acknowledge that it WOULD make me happier that way.

You can't get pregnant was a very obvious one. It can be a bit harder to relate to other girls, because you don't experience all the same things. You have to take medication for the rest of your life, which is true of lots of people, but definitely not true of all girls, or even most. You have to be slightly more careful of social situations, because you can easily encounter people who just don't care to understand.

This list is definitely not exhaustive. There is loads of tiny nuances that can't be done as simply.

I am quasi-stealth. I didn't change locations or jobs, and I work retail. So I am stealth when I am not anywhere local, but too well known locally to be really stealth or anything. I apparently pass rather well though, so people that knew me before started second-guessing themselves, and anyone new just has no idea.

You still have to be more careful of social situations because you can definitely be outed, both physically and socially, and some people can be intolerant of it when confronted with it suddenly. This could not happen to a girl, so it is a definitive difference.

I'd still take periods for the chance at motherhood and a sense of completeness. 100% for sure, no further questions asked. I definitely plan to be a mother some day.

Oh yeah you can. An errant comment, or conversation slip with a friend that knows can do it easily. I'm actually a rather open person, so I don't necessarily hide it, but I also don't really show it either. I just don't let it dominate my life basically.

Somebody could bump into you, or make a grab at you and find out physically as well. This is part of why I try to always be with friends when I go out places where this sort of thing can happen. Not that this sort of danger is even for trans girls alone, that sort of thing can happen to normal girls just as easily.

It definitely was very freeing, like a great weight holding be down and back was released. I don't understand how anyone stays sane with that pressure. I worried some about passing and potential issues at first, but each journey out has given me tons of confidence. I went to a water park with co-workers in a swimkini and nothing weird happened for instance. I also walked around a major city all day in a sun dress with a friend just exploring and shopping and had a great time. I've literally had no bad experiences at all any time I've been out, so I don't feel any real need to hold back at all anymore.

I wouldn't trade this feeling for passing slightly better but having to hide constantly. That seems so depressing and stressful.

Well, it doesn't really feel like "hiding" to me. That's something that can be fixed with a bit of perspective... my genitals don't really need to be discussed unless I'm trying to hook up with a sexy boy or girl.

The main difference is probably that I don't really feel that being trans is a major part of who I am, so not telling people doesn't make me feel like I'm being dishonest about who I am.

Okay, I can see that. I sort of have the same policy anyways. It is perhaps just that I am a bit too well known from work to do stealth locally. Small town, retail store, 10 years of service with amazing benefits and great co-workers and management. I don't tell people I am trans regularly, but I certainly told a ton of regulars just to get ahead of the rumor-mill initially. There is such a rumor-mill in town, and I wanted the initial takes to be cast in a more positive light, and as far as I can tell it has worked pretty well.

Perhaps too well. I am now a minor town celebrity . . . but this too should pass. It's only been 5 months. Can't walk around town anywhere for even 10 minutes without encountering half a dozen honks, waves and encouraging yells. Never had a bad experience though.

I suppose when I said those that hide, I mean the ones that are really worried about it and stay stealth in fear and avoid social things because of it. That is the thing I thought would be stressful and sad.

Four months ago. I went out to the water park a month into HRT, and the sun dress journey was before I even started HRT at the very beginning of my transition.

And yeah, I definitely feel you on the poor girls I see talking like that here all the time. It makes me so sad, and it is so difficult to try to talk them into confidence.
