I'm talking more in the middle ages and ancient history and stuff. Women's rights wasn't something that suddenly appeared in the 20th century, there was a gradual process of them getting more rights as individuals, like being able to own property and stuff, in the last few hundred years.

I'm not denying that women are a protected class, but that's massively different from having political power on any scale. Historically, they were protected as property, not as individuals.

No, I'm just saying that the lack of political power and status as individuals (even within lower classes) means that historically they were not that well off, even if they were a "protected class". And while women have always been protected, it's only fairly recently in historical terms that they've acquired the same rights as men. And I'd say those rights are more important than the privileges of being taken care of. "A gilded cage is still a cage."

Whether or not it is accurate, what it presents is the % of individuals of a certain type who have had (violence) perpetrated against them *by* an intimate partner.

Furthermore, it's not a snapshot of people suffering violence within a current relationship, but of whether they have ever suffered such within one.

This is not the correct chart to judge the % of perpetrators of domestic violence.

But yes, men hardly ever report sexual abuse, even when it's happening. Whether or not some territory or state considers women capable of such abuse, or men capable of being its victim, is irrelevant to this graphic, since it is not a court record, but rather a self-reported survey.
