The appeal to me is that it gives me a mechanic to completely let go of all reservations and just let myself be free for a while. Physical pain in a sexual context also seems to really help me deal with mental stuff. It feels like it's washing me clean sometimes. It's light cutting designs, words, marks just enough to make you bleed. The stitches are for binding skin... sort of like advanced clothes pins or clamps on the body.
