Do you agree with this?

>I do not read novels over 400 pages [...] I find that all the novels of 400 pages can be turned into a novel of 200 pages.

Also are you hyped for Tao's new book?

>"it's called "Leave Society" and it is a novel about child relationships, with a protagonist who has a good relationship with their parents. And instead of the destructive drugs in Taipei , there will be psychedelic drugs, LSD, mushrooms and cannabis. It is my optimistic novel"

Allowing derivative works in /lit/

Our glorious admin Hiroyuki has asked us to discuss if it's time to remove the "no fan-fic discussion" rule.

Reminder that The Divine Comedy counts as fan-fic, as do many derivative works, and that there's a new subset of literature called "rational fanfiction" which is actually of high quality. I personally believe it's time to kill the rule.

What are your thoughts?

Russian Literature

I'm learning Russian at the moment. What is a good book to read to get practice?
Preferably:
>one of the classics
>something so welll-written it is better than to read a translation
>lots of dialogue with not too old-fashioned language

Could be one of each if there is none fitting all criteria. Also more than one rec. welcome.
Thanks in advance

One night stand

No.7301736 ViewReplyReportDelete
I hadn’t seen her in what felt like forever, then there she suddenly was standing at my bedroom door, her hair stuck to her face in wet wisps because of the rain. She knew which door to knock on. We’d spent the whole night together drunkenly fumbling our way through sex the last time she’d graced my doorway. It was probably a month ago, almost to the day.
“Hi” she said in an exaggerated tone before closing the door behind her. She swayed her hips so her ass waved at me as she made her way to the bed to sit down. “We should talk” she said with just a hint of seriousness.
Those are ominous words, but I wasn’t worried in the slightest. I’d been texting her occasionally since that night, as she’d said she’d wanted to see me again, and I thought I’d initiate. She was always busy though. It seemed maybe she’d read into my texts a bit, all those texts coming from me and asking how she was and what she was up to and whether she was free any time soon. I suspected she drew some sort of conclusion from that, which isn’t odd to do, and inferred some kind of romantic notion brewing inside me. But it was just good old-fashioned lust, and I’d quietly lusted after her since I’d first met her at our housewarming party. She paid almost no attention to me that night but I couldn’t help but notice her black curls and those eyes that just popped; they were like suns. She was the life of the party that night, and it seemed that was her rightful throne; she was oozing confidence and sass and sex all the while exclusively drinking white wine. But like I said, she paid no attention to me that night as she was just a friend of my new housemates in our new house and she was but one of many strangers I wished to get to know. But her indifference to me was enticing. As were those eyes.
“Talk about what?” I got up from my chair and sat beside her on the bed

Short story idea

No.7301595 ViewReplyReportDelete
16 year old pop sensation Sasha takes the world by storm and everyone copies her trademark blue hair with blue stars around her eyes. She then gets in a car accident and is horribly disfigured. She worries this will ruin her career. To her manager's relief millions of kids begin imitating her wounds by mutilating themselves. Her manager encourages her to mutilate herself more and pretty soon it becomes the biggest youth craze the world has ever seen. They make millions of DIY self-mutilation kits. Then all of a sudden she falls out of favour due to a lip syncing incident at a concert and no one likes her anymore but a whole generation is left disfigured. It ends with a young boy en route to see the next big thing in concert, writing "she was never any good anyway" to his friend on a napkin because he cut his own tongue off to imitate Sasha and can't talk anymore.

>A mother let her child fall into the Nile. Still harping on the mother. A crocodile seized the child. Mother asked it back. Crocodile said all right if she told him what he was going to do with the child, eat it or not eat It

>This mentality, Lepidus would say, is indeed bred out of your mud by the operation of your sun

>And mine? Is it not too? Then into Nile mud with it!
