RANT GOODREDS

Why is it that all the books I see are variants of 50 shades of grey geared towards lonely women?

No wonder everyone nowadays are put off reading because it's over saturated with mindless sexist sex stories for women.

I'm a man, I want to read man stuff. Fuck goodreads man, I can't navigate the site without running into YA sex filled fantasy fanfiction

How do I meditate like Aurelius? Is that how I can become the Ubermensch Nietzsche wanted me to be? When I become an Ubermensch will I get my ideology, like how Zizek says?

That's what 3/4 of this board sounds like.

Who is the Jaguar Wong of literature?

Are there any good conservative science fiction books apart from Starship Troopers? It feels like almost all of the famous and popular sci-fi books lean to the left, and pic related is the only one with a solidly right-wing view.

General intellectual discussion thread

post what you are reading, how you feel

Myself? I'm enjoying some classic Stirner.
He makes quite the compelling argument, if I do say so myself

and before you ask, no I am not underage

Is modern western life so boring that everything has to be about some extremist at the edge of society? A secret agent, criminal, what else? I love many detective novels but holy shit they are overused as a story device.

What could you aspire to realistically that would also be worth reading or watching as part of a book or movie?

Serious question, /lit/: how do you sit and focus for long periods of time?

I am a 4th year uni student and I thought I would have this down by now but I don't. I literally cannot just sit and read-- I'm constantly fidgeting, looking around, spacing out, etc.

I try to read away from computers, I turn my phone off, I stay caffeinated--nothing seems to work.

When I was younger, I could sit and read a book from cover to cover without looking up, but these were fun books I was actually interested in.

A lot of the stuff I need to read for class (modern fiction, philosophical works) is pretty damn interesting but I just can't seem to fucking concentrate for more than a minute at a time.

Any advice/books that helped you with this problem?

Do any of these shitty books actually work? Can I "learn" to be more friendly and less autistic when talking to people?
Any suggestion is helpful.
