The bible exists of the old testament, which is the Jewish Torah and some other jewish judaistic books, and the new testament.
If people quote the bible, they often have quotes from the psalms or the new testament, but this adds up to only a small part of what is considered "the bible" nowadays.
This bible is, in fact a group of seperate books (which I believe to have been inspired by god), that were written by different people, and in different fashions. A big part of the bible is nothing but jewish history, and those books are more accurate historically than other historical books. This can be seen in the fact that it does not only depict the own group of people as heros, but shows that they did wrong as well, and how that was fixed. It is also one of the very little historian books from that age that did tell of the failures in war and the lost wars. Most other books simply deny the fact that the writers nation lost wars, and this is a big sign of parts of the bible being historically accurate.
Another big part of the bible is hygienic laws, and the god inspired writer or the smart ruler that wrote this was really ahead of his time in trying to keep his people clean and healthy, and being unclean was even outlawd.
The bible is and was a valuable literary resource, even if you dont believe in the theology thats promoted in it.
