If you know English, why are you bothering with translations of English-language works?

Some books would be okay in translation, but I couldn't see Ulysses and Ada or Ardor surviving the transition well.

One of the greatest Australian novels (although Fortunes of Richard Mahony and Voss pip it of top spot for me) I've read but it is fucking bleak.

Power Without Glory is bloody good too even if it's a bit bloated for a character study.

Memes aside, Don Quixote is one of the best books I've read all year. Funny, engaging, and Don Quixote is a deceptively deep character. It takes quite a while to take off proper, and the first half is tedious at times, but the pay off in the second part is definitely worth it.

Can someone explain to me how something like Finnegans Wake is translated to other languages?

Half of it is quite literally other languages smashed together with English, how the fuck would you begin to translate that?

Same thing goes with I guess Ulysses and Infinite Jest where idiom and the quirks of English I would imagine are unique to English, how would those get translated?
