JR also lacks Gaddis' wonderful prose, and honestly does not capture America or the modern world near as well, despite that being its focus.

If you want realistic conversations, don't read anything older than 10 years old. Language evolves.

I read some of the suggestions here, like Gaddis, and they aren't realisic at all. Checked the date.. published 1970s.

some fanfics from fanfiction.net have really realistic conversations, because they're written by young people, not old people with outdated style.
