>>7276103The whole experience for Killian had been equal parts interesting and scary; being a fresh eighteen year old recruit hadn’t given him much in the way of advantages. Their first day at Echo post, these giant six legged creatures that looked like a gorillas, yet larger than any elephant he had ever heard of. They had matte grey fur that gave a natural camouflage against the mountains and thick long horns that curved like a Pakistani Ibex, but from the upper jaw bone like a mammoth. They suffered 3 deaths that day, and it took every weapon they had to put the beasts down. Killian shivered at the memories at the same time the plane lurched harder than before.
“Captain, what’s the issue? These new planes fly themselves practically! So why are we bumping around like a cargo plane pre impact era?” One of the officers up front belted with a smile, getting a round of laughter from all the Rangers on board.
“Just keep belted in.” Was the terse reply from the cockpit, followed by another lurch in the plane and a massive crack of lightning.
Another officer Killian hadn’t met, started walking up the rows towards the cockpit. The sleek black uniform, which was more armour then clothing clung to every Ranger like a glove. The five stars on his throat and shoulders showed he was a General.
“Why was a General at Echo Post?” Killian asked quietly to his friend Jace sitting next to him.
Jace looked up at Killian for a moment with a mischievous smile, before responding he cocked his head to right and left checking to see if anyone was paying attention to them. After a brief moment and realizing almost everyone was white knuckling their arm rests being far more preoccupied with the plains turbulent shaking, Jace turned back to Killian. “There have been rumours circulating that they are pulling everyone off the outposts that line Bulwark Ridge Mountains. Something about all the attacks these new creatures were running into, and the losses. From the looks of it they are sending five star generals from Intelligence command to review the facilities and figure out what to do.”
