So I've never actually read a book before. I've always gotten a few chapters in and got bored. I've just never found anything interesting enough to sit and read for hours at a time. Recommend me something that will change my mind.

Maybe I've just been turned off of books because school made the jump from short fiction stories to Sophocles without much in between.

Maybe you're trying out the wrong kind of books.

Try philosophy, it's great for people with short attention spans. Also, maybe pick up the Tao Te Ching. It's 81 chapters, and each chapter is only a few lines.

You may be interested in The Prince by Machiavelli. Short book, short chapters, good introduction to philosophy and political theory.

Read short stories and build your way up. I know she gets a lot of shit from /lit/ but I think Miranda July is a great place to start. Her collection of short stories, called No One Belongs Here More Than You, is pretty fantastic.

There are several philosophical books with long paragraphs and you won't grasp their meaning if you don't pay attention or if you don't have any sort of basic knowledge backing you up.

OP, you should definetly start with short stories and then move onto something "bigger" such as novels. Then it's just up to you, once you get used to reading you can buy an essay or even some philosophy book (start with the Greeks).

Get one of the books from Stephen King with short stories, like night shift. Try different things, because you are really denying yourself a world of incredible wonders by not reading. Reading is the closest we can ever get to inhabiting the mind and possessing the thoughts of another person. I'm not dyslexic, nor do I have ADHD. I think that during school I was just ashamed of asking for help or extra time when I needed it. I got through high-school by BSing and getting the bare minimum work done for a passing grade.

Books are going to be a pain in the ass to hold since my hands are pretty badly burned so I'll buy an e-reader and try some of the literature mentioned ITT.
