Linguistic nationalism is a big core, maybe the single biggest core aspect of the birth of modern nationalism, especially in the 19th century with the emergence of all these "countries" and "nations" out of old multi-"ethnic" dynastic states. It was a big element in even the dynastic states' attempts to rationalise their populations with the rise of censuses and nationalist insurgencies, and then a big element in Wilsonian idealism and the 20th century nation state in continuity with that.

There's an enormous amount of literature and types of literature on it, from 19th century romanticist Poles and Hungarians and Finns championing vernacular literature as the key to creating (or awakening, or resurrecting, or however they perceived it) a national identity, to modern scholars analysing every possible aspect of this stuff (like the history of shibboleths), to more modern literary authors like the dudes in the OP identifying with their language, either aware or unaware of the long tradition and history of people doing that.
