Let's assume God exists, the ground of all existence, with all his omnipotence and omniscience. Could he answer this question? Could he know why he exists instead of nothingness?

You got it wrong, the question is not about our existence but rather about his existence, or existence in it's totality. Assume god existed forever and will exist forever, what about his existence makes it necessary so that he has to exist rather than nothing?

Are you asking what answer would the Abrahamic God as he is presented give to that question, or a metaphysical reality personified as a "god"? Either way it would be something along the lines of "I cannot not be". Also, "God" being the Supreme Being does not necessarily mean he is the antithesis of Nonbeing or Nothingness. In fact, the truly Supreme Reality, being beyond all forms of duality, is beyond the duality of Being and Nonbeing as well. So the classic answer would be "I am who I am", which is interchangeable with "I am", which is interchangeable with silence. So he may just remain silent.

I think all being is the antithesis of nonbeing. What makes you say that?

It's the laws of physics vs God.

When you phrase it like that, it makes it harder to believe in God.
