Besides the drawback of losing your integrity as a writer, isn't it actually quite a good choice to pursue a career as an author of YA fiction?
I've never tried writing it, but it seems like it would be much more formulaic and straightforward than writing purely for artistic integrity. If your work gets popular, there is huge potentiation for a big salary, movie deals, and a very comfy lifestyle in general. You also have the feelgood factor of knowing your work brings genuine enjoyment to a huge number of people, and may encourage them to read more /lit/worthy books in the future.
