Is it possible to create a protagonist who kill kids because they interfere with his ideals, and keep seeing him as the "good guy"?

I immediately think deathnote. Good people don't jump on the chance to kill and there's options in most situations. I'm not saying what you ask is impossible, but I think that's basically why they made zombies.

That's not a complete situation. I'd love to elaborate some ideas with you and help but I just can't work with that man. Who's sawing? Why? how does that save the world? From what? Life doesn't work in absolutes the way fiction presents it.

I'm destroying it? I'd just say no and not do it. This choice just doesn't pan out. I have a saw. I'd use it on whoever's trying to make me saw children. Or whoever would destroy the world, or whatever thing makes these children so dangerous.

The background threat which he keeps at bay to establish his goodguy-ness must be so great at least in his own eyes that your audience understands why he would make the decision to kill the kid and sees the character as a victim of circumstance in it.

Op, have you considered a female protagonist?

There are enough male protagonists killing kids, let's get a woman to do some of this morally grey stuff, without the boo-hoo soft-heart fluff that's usually stuck to female characters in moral dilemmas.
