>>7285953>hahahahhahnice refutation, argumentum ad lapidem though it'd be troubling to call that an argument
>Anything superficial has to do with the surface of somethingAre there superficial comments on here? Of course, but also many nuanced discussions
>>7285950>I have an ereader full of books, yet I spend 5x more time on the internet than reading them.Perhaps that has less to do with that the internet being sOoOoOoOo distracting than to do with the fact that screens cause divisiveness of attention and information that has been proven to be less absorbed than a physical book. Your lcd screen and the black and white technology in your e-reader and one and the same in their psychological effects, try picking up some paperbacks
>working class does not take a bigger part in intellectual culture. It's not low IQs or capitalist brainwashing, they're just too tiredI agree with this, they probably are tired. At the same time I'm taking a maximum courseload at uni and working 5 days a week while writing a novel and doing elective reading on top of school reading in my free time. People are tired, yes, but they also don't want to push themselves. I wouldn't say capitalism is the reason I'm working hard, I simply think it'd be a waste of life to spend a bunch of time on social media as it has been proven to ultimately make people more depressed and there are so many things that could make you happy
>it's an upwards struggle and not really something you're willing to do after 10 hours of construction site workI don't see how sitting still and paying attention to a book after you're physically exhausted is difficult, the energy you are expending is entirely separate than physical labor.
If you'll allow me to pull up my suspenders and take out my cane, society these days seems to be increasingly filled with ADD apologists. A few of them are shills for the big social media corporations, telling you that you need to find a balance when you really don't NEED to be using those things at all (it's not making you any happier, proven) but most are simply people that don't see the big picture, that working hard and overcoming stress creates a lasting happiness (proven), who would rather play games on their phone than spend that same 15 minutes a day learning a new language or understanding economics
