When someone like Pynchon lessens that, in his "lite" works, the shitposters and reading community are more likely to fling those claims; especially towards an author whose writing is quite obtuse and deals with a lot of petty pop-culture soundbites. Not to say, that's a wrong method at all, just an opinion people might hold.
