Start with The Ego and Its Own (jks)
RE: Plato. Symposium especially and "the last days of Socrates" are good to buy. I would forgo Republic for now until you have read much more of Plato. It's a gem but save it until you are "into" philosophy.
Read the (Bible King James Version (old Testament in Hebrew and New testament in Greek (just kidding))) if you can. It's not boring, just long. Ecclesiastes and some of the Gospels are quite enjoyable to read. A good knowledge of the Bible is really at the foundation of being a patrician.
Avoid Aristotle, Stoics, German idealism, and definitely avoid the pop/meme philosophy books by Zizek and the like.
My advice is to yes start with the Greeks meme, there are people who study memeology (classics). Read the playwrights and literature of the Greeks as you read the philosophy. But my main piece of advice is to read the Bible and the philosophy of the post-Aristotle and pre-Descartes. Do this because most plens (including /lit/) ignore, discard, and deny this period of thought.
