I can see the drawing out absurdities of social conduct, or a stylistic humor that he has. But some other such stories such as Metamorphosis, In the Penal Colony, The Hunger Artist, The Burrow, The Trial (for the most part), the sense of futility, contradiction, overwhelming guilt, and overbearing authority (which somewhat aligns with his noted familial experiences) just doesn't strike me as funny. Even being locked out on the balcony in Amerika was reminiscent of a punishment he received as a child that was quite traumatic for him.
