Hey /lit/

I've been reading picrelated as reccd by you guys, and I've been accepting surprisingly well the author's take on Leary's Eight-Circuit model.

What are other books which expand on this "consciousness map" (including Leary's must-reads, since Ive read nothing by him)? And what are the most accepted modern alternatives, if any?

Have you read the Illuminatus! trilogy? That book changed how i think. Its a must read. The book is slow at times but if you could get past the first 100 pages you'll probably be able to finish it (and glad you did)

The first of his activities tells you to find a quarter using two different methods of thinking.

1. Just looking out for a quarter on the ground.
2. Picturing the quarter in a gutter somewhere and believing you were the one who brought that quarter into existence. It's there because you imagined it there.

I'm Australian, so we don't have quarters. 5 cent pieces are the closest thing to it.

Yeah, it was a massive waste of time looking for it. I went out on walks daily hoping to find one. My book was due back later that month and I still hadn't found one. Ridiculous. So I gave up on it completely. Thanks for your thoughts though; I'll reborrow it as soon as I can.

Man, you've got greater determination and fortitude than me to go out looking for a 5 cent piece every day for a month. I'd quit on my first search because I would just feel autistic running around after 5p.

I'm also part way through reading, and am still on this part (have found the first two ten cent pieces (my country's smallest demonination,) still looking for the third, however I did find a larger denomination and wondered if that counted, could also be seen as some kind of metaphor too I suppose.
I think the trick isn't to go out looking for the coin, but imagine finding it vividly as you walk around going about your regular day. The joy from finally finding them are glorious. However, you've got to keep in mind the book was written in the 80's (from memory,) when carrying cash was more common. Nowadays, where I am most people use eftpos, hence fewer coins being dropped, hence a longer hunt.

Do you think the book has had an effect on your consciousness? I kinda dismissed it as occult twaddle until some anon in a thread mentioned one of the exercises in the book really have a big impact on his life. ( I think it was the exercise about imagining physically assaulting the person you're talking to.)

That's a good point. I think it'd be different if I'd actually bought the book and had the time to do all the activities, but a month is a small amount of time to randomly find two 5 cent pieces. Congrats on actually finding them though. It must have felt great!

I would say that the book is continuing to have an effect on my consciousness, however, that was the reason I started reading it, so I was open to it/ expectant of it. I think part of the point of the book is that you see/ experience what you expect ("The prover proves what the thinker thinks," so it seems like you maybe haven't taken that idea fully on board. It's definitely made me feel like my horizons are widening, and the scope of what I can achieve is limitless. Having said that, I started with the assumption that occultism isn't "twaddle," and has some value. I'm reading PR as part of the /lit/ starter kit to Western Occultism. You might also like the Kabbalion, there are audiobooks of it on Youtube and I found it had the same effect, and I could listen to it while doing other tasks or exercising.

Yes, finding the coins did feel pretty special :)
I'm still looking for the last coin and starting to work on the other exercises too, while still looking for the third. It's a pretty effective mind opening exercise imo, as long as you persevere. Best wishes anon.
