>"Here, let me use that laptop," said Karen. "I want to make sure we've got the right place." Before James could protest, Brian lifted up the thin notebook and passed it to Lilianne, who passed it to Karen. James tried not to look nervous, on the dirty couch, in the dim light of their basement apartment. James didn't know whether it would be worse to stop them, or to let it play out; he couldn't remember.
>"They won't know what hit them," said Brian, continuing the explanation of his plan. "They're going to panic and we're going to take advantage of the opportunity that presents."
>James watched Karen swing the laptop open with her delicate fingers, and she brushed the soft brown hair out of her eyes.
>"I think we will need--" began Brian when suddenly a very feminine moan escaped from the laptop. James' eyes widened and he froze, looking at the blue light on Karen's pretty face, her expression twisted into one of surprise, confusion, disgust.
>Karen slammed the laptop shut, but the sound kept going, unmercifully, strong feminine cries of pleasure. The room burst into laughter and James had the sudden urge to crawl into a very small hole and disappear forever.
>Karen clutched it tightly, trying to prevent the noise from escaping. Everyone commented at once, loud jeers and jokes at James' expense. "Ooh, oh, YES," the voice said, too quietly now for anyone to hear over the laughter. Then, if you had known what to listen for, you would have heard the unmistakable whinny of a horse. James looked at Karen. Karen looked back at James. Silence.
