Alexander was a total faggot, you can read about him on Plutarchus Paralleloi Bioi.

He surely was charismatic and inspiring, and pushed himself where nobody had ever, but he also was a bit bitchy at times.

In Plutarchus depiction, I found Caesar to be manlier. That guy was a smug and based fucker

it's about the life and death of Beunaventura Durruti, early XX century Spanish anarchist. Brilliant book, it's written using only excerpts of interviews, letters or any other second-hand source on the guy. Makes it much more akin to a book of exempla instead of just someone's life - especially if you appreciate their ideals.

Plutarch's Lives are what you're looking for; you can find them online or get the Modern Library edition in two volumes. Full of biographies of great men.

Ulysses S. Grant's Autobiography is also what you're looking for.
