So how many of you are in the middle of projects intended to rival Ulysses and Gravity's Rainbow, and how many of you are just trying to put together some expendable genre fiction work to try and get an additional cheque in the mail?

I'd love to write a book with that kind of scope, but I'm not up to the task just yet. I'm writing short stories and a shorter novel to develop myself.

I don't feel the need to try and write something like the books you mentioned. I enjoy writing short stories and I'm working on my first novella, that's what I like. I won't probably write fiction longer than 250 pages in the future, nor I want to. Nonfiction, on the other hand...
