I think the only way it could work is from Machiavelli's perspective, which is not personally believing in religion but saying it is very important and should be strengthened. But even so a lot of the morality involved in conservatism can only be substantiated through religion, not secular reasoning.
You can't really be authentically religious, that is Christian, without believing that things like fornication and abortion are sins. You can still be a Christian, but you're being one in bad faith. Liberal Christianity is more about bending Christianity to fit your beliefs than the other way around.
