because even if we don't buy the God of christianity but the God of the mystics, why would he create a creation where the supposed sparks of the divine - life, consciousness - is always in danger of being obliterated by rocks from space

It really depends on your construct of divinity. For Christianity, everything is the will of God. If he wants the world to be blasted to oblivion by space rocks, then so be it. Life, despite being his greatest creation, is simply a transitionary phase in existence.
