The Overgod created the universe, and everything just does what the overgod planned to happen, until the overgod is made who then destroys the universe in such a way it is recreated and the cycle is repeated.

That explains fate, why there are no parallel universes, and yeah, life is like groundhog day, its a best play movie done by the overgod.
