I think with Chris it's extremely complicated and I think I'll sit on the fence forever about him.
As for a recommendation that's hard to give from what you said you enjoyed about it.
Electric Kool-Aid Test is my favorite novel. It's Tom Wolfe documenting a group of hippies, all true story.Krakauer's detail is nothing on Wolfe. It's amazing. Read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest first, it's author, Ken Kesey, is the main person Wolfe writes about in Kool-Aid Test.
Read Hunter S Thompson's Hell's Angel's, so good, then read The Great Shark Hunt, it's a collection of articles.
