If they actually care they'll ask questions about it and only then should you elaborate.

Pick something interesting to talk about and bring it up.

"I'm at this part where there's an old ship captain leading a church service/ in this book nobody can lie. Makes for some interesting conversations!/ *puzzled look* it's about (take a single thematic thread, give examples from the story) / it's weird, in this story it doesn't seem like..."

Then when you're done talking to them say "hey it was good talking to you, I gotta get back to this :) you know where to find me!"
