Was Schopenhauer a bitter loser trying to rationalize his failure in life, or does he have a point?

Also, whats a good book to read about him and his philosophy, excluding his own work? Some sort of solid analysis.

His books didnt sell, nobody asked him to talk in Universities and Academies, he lived and died alone in a boarding house, surrounded by people he actively hated, and eastern philosophy and spirituality didnt take over Europe to push away Christianity like he assumed would happen.
He tried to fight Hegel, but the latter didnt even acknowledge his existence.

if you are interested in ideas, read his magnum opus.
if you want more potentially personal shit, read the self help section of "Parerga and Paralipomena" usually titled "Aphorisms" or "Aphorisms on the Wisdom of Life"

Schoppy directly inspired Darwin. Biology as an important factor in human being behavior pretty much started with him.

His prose is very good. His treatises on rhetoric are very important. One should read them. Very close to a modern sophist.

Also, losers don't stand the test of time.

he got acclaim and praise in last 4 years of his life
and his life wasnt that bad anyway. he had loads of money so he always dined at a local restaurant and stayed for hours if the guests there were interesting enough. he was well known in the city and people liked to talk to him, he was very witty even though quite reactionary and old fashioned even in his time. he also loved theatre and music, every week he went to a concert or play.
