I'm trying to put together a list of MOOCs/lectures to use alongside reading the "western canon". The idea is to read the texts and use the lectures for structure/commentary/analysis/etc.
I've found material for most of the canon, but for the more niche writers there's nothing available in lecture form. So I'm looking for recommendations on written material about the following:
History:
Xenophon
Livy
Suetonius
Carlyle
Gibbon
Literature:
Beowulf/Roland/dream of the rood/other anglo-saxon stuff
Sagas
Early Shakespeare
Johnson/Boswell
Wilde
German Romantics: Goethe, Heine, Novalis, Schelling?
Drama: Ibsen, Beckett
Philosophy:
Aristotle, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, Witty, Quine, something left-y?
Religion:
Something on protestantism?
Also have I left out anything important?
