Which one is better for reading ancient greek mythology? Edith Hamilton or Thomas Bulfinch's mythology? Or is there another book that you might recommend?

I would go with Bulfinch between the two. Hamilton is dry and academic. Well, Bulfinch is too, but less so.

And if you have the time/interest, read the source material instead (or at least something close like Metamorphoses).

they're both good. not sure how anyone could find them dry or academic unless they have never actually read anything dry and academic. they're both easily accessible to laymen. Another good one is Robert Graves' Greek Myths

Hamilton is quick and snappy and really enjoyable

Bulfinch for the victorian sentimentalism as that anon said

Graves has extremely in-depth notes and commentary but nigga is obsessed with muh white goddess and so half the book is a history lesson on matriarchal goddess cults and how they were wiped out by male divinities

Hamilton writes at the start of each tale about the sources. A lot of Ovid and Virgil as far as i can remember.
