Personally I always thought an author's worldview is only interesting if he stands in one of the two extremes regarding social facts, customs and values.

So when it comes to sex and relationships for example, either they go the (likely) reactionary route and try to set romantic and sexual relationships a few generations back while expressing a deep disgust at our current sexual values, or they go the other route and act like they're not constrained by almost any prevailing norms, including our current sexual categories. Anything that stands between those two is probably going to be boring and redundant.
