I can't say but I hate it. Some girl in English refused to talk to me about anything deeper than 'oh, Tyrion is smart,' when I suggested that a certain scene had absurdist themes.

Because they read purely for fun in the most conventional sense of the word. They crave escapism. They also have a very solipsistic view of reading, so they are constantly questioning why you would read anything that doesn't gel with what they consider a good, fun book. They are also obnoxiously defensive. You don't even have to be bashful, just express a disinterest in aliens and elves and you can see the hurt in their eyes.

Maybe because not everyone want to discuss those kinda things? I never talk about the stuff I like in a very detailed manner, unless i know for sure that the other person wants to have that kinda discussion.

Relativity, they read for fun and excitement. Something you can't get from "books about garden parties and drinking coffee alone".

Not him but I don't talk about those kinds of things in detail either, mostly because I'm just better at discussing stuff like that over writing than talking. I think it's because when you talk about something, you're mostly improvising and have a tendency to get interrupted, while in writing you have more time to think and can lay out all of your thoughts
