When Geraldo Rivera asks Charles Manson if he was responsible for the murders Charlie responds : "I am responsible for my actions, you are responsible for yours."

This is akin to saying : If i influence you, it is up to you to make the final decision for yourself. Ergo, your actions are within your control, not mine. If I tell you that you should do something, listen to yourself first.

Obviously the first one is more concise and "cool" but, i'm wondering, is there a name for the difference in expression I'm pointing out?

Is it simply just using less words to say more?
Is it charisma?

What is it?
