drags on a bit in some areas. tolkien was a linguist at the end of the day. his love of language is very apparent. read the hobbit and if you can handle a more serious, and a lot more wordy and convoluted version of that for the sake of prose and lore/detail then go for it. feel free to skip over the pages of elf poems/songs. doesn't make a huge difference.
