I once waterdamaged my university's entire collected works of bertrand russell (extremely old and worth thousands) to the point where they were nearly unreadable, returned them, said nothing, and nobody found out it was me

At my university, if you owe them money for overdue books, they change your account number to a "has owed fines" number.

So I am in fact branded, and the qt student worker at the desk will always know.
