Everything I order from bookdepository comes with like 100 bookmarks, so I tend to use them.

Also, if you fold, you tend to do it as boring places (since you're able to put down the book) which sucks for a future owner.

If the book has chapters or breaks in the page I always try to read to the end of a section. I remember where I am in that case, and if I happen to forget, with paperbacks I tend to open them all the way, pressing down on the crease where the spine is with each page turn so that kinda makes a natural bookmark (the book opens up right to where I left off).
Sometimes I use a bookmark for soft covers, and for larger books I try to always buy hardcovers, with hardcovers I generally use a bookmark.

I break all my spines but folded pages really irks me tbh.

My local bookstores give me sweet bookmarks that I use.

Sometimes I rip out and consume the pages to gain their powers but it usually gets me constipated so I don't do it that often.

This, when you are done reading a page simply tear it out. That way the next time you begin you will always be at the front. Plus it provides tangibility to your progress.

Bonus points if you plaster the torn out pages on your bedroom wall.

To remain on-topic, I usually just make sure to stop at a chapter-episode end, or else if it's a denser work I'm usually using a companion, so I sort of fold the book and the companion into eachother and thereby mark each corresponding page, if you can visualize that. Else I just remember the page number: I like the idea of bookmarks, but I inevitably loose them.

I pour some water (or whatever beverage I am drinking from) on the page so that the pages wrinkle and deform. It makes it easier because all I have to do is open the book and it usually opens to the page with the stain.
