Let's get a discussion going on this book. I know a lot of you have read it. Spoilers. Obviously spoilers. If you don't want to know about this book, don't read further, simple as. I started it yesterday and finished it today. And what an incredible journey it's been. Every part of me wants to feel like I'm not going to become like Stoner. I want to have a wife and love her, I want to have a child and love it, and I want to have a job and love it, but I know I'll never do any of those things well enough. I know it all means nothing, and that even in death, the only thing that I'll ever have achieved is what I gave not to others, but to myself.

Just remember that Williams didn't view Stoner as a tragic figure. He had sadness and hardships and disappointment, but he wasn't pathetic. And in the end, Stoner lived life. That's what matters.

I have an interpretation of this book that's something like academic pursuits are in some ways the just the same as agriculture pursuits.

Cant stand the amount of retards who view Stoner as a tragic figure, like if Williams was trying to say some "live ur life! Travel! Be different and live life to the fullest :D!" bs like if it were an ad for a ski resort.

I wish people would stop selling Stoner as an academic book. Only the middle of the book deals with something uniquely academic, the rest of the book is more about Stoner's relationships than his academia. Not that's a bad thing by any means. I do wish there was a good book purerly about academics, even if it was an overachieving high-schooler overthinking his grades.

I see a few people in this thread saying they read this in a day or just a few days. I finished it in 3 days. This might be common for you guys, but for me it usually takes way longer to finish a book. What are some other books that are such a good read that they're hard to put down like this one?

If I remember correctly they are described in somewhat detail in at least one instance. Pretty neat cover actually.
