What's your opinion on just making words up in your book?

>it's okay to do it constantly throughout (making your writing inchuffable)

It's perfectly OK, provided you put a bit of thought into it. Shakespeare made shit up left and right, and we have the word 'quiz' because some Irish guy wrote it on walls until people asked him what it meant. All words were made up by somebody, at some point. Why shouldn't you have a go?

If the word is needed or clever, fine. Even if it's meaningless, it's okay as long as it is beautiful. But if you just smash your head on the keyboard and act smart, it's not.

As long as "i see what you did there" then I personally encourage any making up of words. But if you're just babbling sounds at me like half of the silmarillion i'm going to lose interest and have someone just tell me what happened in the book.
