Why does /lit/ never talk about Norse mythology?

Are they still stuck in neoclassicism? Why haven't they widened their scope?
I'd say the Germanic/Nordic component has been just as important to Western civilization.

There hasn't been a "definitive" work derived from Norse mythology, there isnt the norse equivalent of the illiad for example. What we know is from handed down folktales. This is partly cause Christianity came in and quashed it pretty hard.
The closest we get is the Icelandic sagas which I'd agree aren't discussed enough here.

probably because the greeks were great intellectuals living in the bosom of civilization that is the mediterranean while the norse were raiders who lived in a place that necessitated the invention of bark bread and wasn't even considered part of europe in the middle ages

Is this bait? There'd be no fucking difference if all nordic myths were lost whereas the greeks and romans actually had a tangible impact on the west unlike your romanticised pirate savages.

Chretien de Troyes and his Arthurian works ( obvious celtic remnants ), not to mention the whole Grail lore, are kind of a huge deal in western literature and have pagan origins.
Also Robert de Boron, Wolfram von Eschenbach and Thomas Malory being part of that same crowd.

Yeah but those aren't influenced by Germanic paganism, but rather Celtic pagan, as well as mostly Christian themes and motifs. From the kick off of Chivalric Romance, the works were solidly Christian, and very French.

The songs of deeds were even more Christian.

So outside of some influence on the motifs....lol pagans

You can't go "lol pagans" and then agree there was a Celtic pagan influence ( which I literally said it was ).
In a sense one could say the whole idea of knighthood and the ideal surrounding it isn't particularly Christian and betrays an earlier origin ( which I think isn't that controversial ).
I read a paper on the origins of opera being Lombardic and therefore Germanic, but I can't find it right now.
It was rather eye opening.

Christians are the ones who wrote down the Norse myths in the first place. Are you under the impression Snorri Sturluson was a pagan? Are you aware that the only reason we even have the Poetic Edda is because of a Christian bishop?
