Yeah I had the exact same thing happen to me recently. It was weird. They even had a MG Wing built up quite well in a display case. I had to fight not to buy one of the RG's right there and then.

I really don't know why they sell those kits. "I want a big as fuck box that's fifty bucks" is a lot harder sell at Disney than an SD kit for fifteen like they used to sell.

Disney world sells that sort of shit? That actually reminds me. When I was younger I went to Lotte world or whatever in Korea and their gift shop had some Gundam Origin figure. It was the Origin version RX-78-2. Kind of a weird place to find Gundam figures but then again B&N stocks gunpla these days

yeah in the Japan pavillion at Epcot they've had Gundam kits going back to... the mid90s I think from personal recollection, and I've heard of them having old robot kits in the model kit shop in Future World back in the early 80s

I went there in third grade, and I remember being super fucking excited when we got to the Japan pavillion. I begged my mom for a Gundam Epyon kit or a Black Wargreymon, and she said we'd come back for one before we left the park that night. We did not come back.

Still haven't bought an Epyon kit, really should one of these days. Its still one of my favorite designs.

There was an anon on /toy/ who worked for B&N that made a thread about this at some point. If I remember correctly, according to him the kits were made by random store employees- usually on break or lunch or something- and then thrown into the display. The stores apparently don't take it too seriously and aren't really looking for hobbyists to build them; they just want them out there on display in some form.

Don't know about others but ours arrived in pieces (hands, shoulder, torso, shoulder armor, basically sub assemblies) and the person in charge of it had to figure out how to put it together and ended up snapping the v-fin. They also said that the swords were backwards in the display because they were like that when they arrived and the hands were glued shut around them.
