Film talk time, everyone.

Victory Gundam, as you may know, and as I suspected for years, was shot on two different film stocks. The first 10 episodes are on 35mm, and the remainder on 16mm. I predicted a drop in quality on the 16mm episodes, but I was not ready for this. The DNR is just... bad. It does little more than soften the grain, rather than smoothly remove it, and we're left with something resembling Funimation's DBZ shit, in that it adversely affects line work.

I get it, you like the design, but that movie is a piece of shit. It's greatest offense is just being plain boring while shin isn't on screen, which is most of the movie. It's the fly 2 meets kamen rider.

Although I'd dig a lone wolf and cub style sequel.

On the one hand, I'd like more of an exploration of the world. Is there anything beyond the stage that is Paradigm City? Is it a Truman Show-style environment full of androids, or is it more metaphysical? What about all the gears and such during Roger's sink into the depths, or were those metaphorical too? Is it all a giant holodeck? How many times has the satellite crashed?

On the other hand, I'm not sure I actually want those questions answered.

Yeah, I actually dig a fair chunk of the tweaks like that. The way I look at it, it keeps with the fantasy theme of the series, and is fixing the usual screw ups that come up in the translation process.

If I remember correctly, a mix of timing and translation issues, and the Hulu subs dropping made the project seem unnecessary. The Hulu subs have their own problems though, including completely missing lines. Which is resulting in me having to stitch in the TV-N subs every so often to fill in the blanks.

Keep in mind, if we get LoDM DVDs at this point, we're going to be getting the Hulu subs on disc, warts and all. Toei is notorious for providing in house translations and refusing to let outsiders fix their mistakes.

I think the latter makes more sense, simply going off the illustrations. Though knowing how Japanese prose can be, I can't imagine deciphering it without them.

The whole "Solar is holding back your true power but now is giving you a second brace to power up" reminded me of Bleach and that description sounds a bit like how Yhwach did drew out a bow in the sky to get his sword. There was also a line where Souji said he felt like his twintails were one with the earth and could grasp the very atmosphere with them.
