Its just 'cool'. The school bit seems to stretch for a bit too much at 1st and the intrigue isnt that deep or anything.

The mech designs and action is ok and the waifus are top tier.

I haven't been able to finish it yet because the author somehow though it was a great idea to have 4 hours of slice of life world building before the plot moves forward at all.

It's Tenchi with Mecha. Thats....it really. We still have as good as you get with harem anime with mecha goodness.

As for the mecha action it'self? Setting wise it's a bit to get your head around. Like most Tenchi series they don't think about it too hard. However, the action is good and the mechs, while not very inspired, are decent.

It was Tenchi with a few things that were supposed to make you go "huh, that looks sort of like Eva" and a main robot that's supposed to make you go "OH SHIT IT'S NEO GRANZON'S BROTHER"

It does but it doesn't. It's weird. It doesn't actually involve anything in Tenchi but the MC's (forgot his name) absurd strength and skills don't really make any sense otherwise and without knowing this, it all comes off as really contrived

It uses gravity in different ways than Granzon does, though. It uses gravity for quick attacks (some physical and some not), defensive purposes, and one fuckhuge death strike. All of Granzon's gravity based attacks are fuckhuge death strikes.

You do not need to know anything about Tenchi to enjoy the show but it makes more sense if you know that the main character is the younger half brother of God.

I always thought that it was funny that as overpowered as Kenchi was compared to anyone else in that world he was much weaker then any of the Tenchi main characters except for maybe Mihoshi.

I'm wondering how exactly a Seikishi's shape is determined.
Because a pilot could enter any empty mech and it would take their personal shape.
I know that a lot of the traditions and fashions of pilots have been explained in Kajishima's doujins, but I'm not aware of anything about the mechs themselves.

Isekai was my first Tenchi series and I understood it just fine.

I really hope that Ryo-Ohki 4 means we'll see a second season of Isekai eventually. This series was way too fun.
