Is this a Kikaider reference?

I think there are also references to Robot K (Raito Shiba) and Metalder (secret weapon developed during WWII).

I get some of the references.

Jiro with guitar is Kikaider; Kikko is the magical girl genre; Gross Augen is Ultraman; Raito is Robot K; robo couple is Kikaider/Metalder.

What about the others' references? Emi? Furota / ghost boy? Guy with time stop watch? The Tartarus bugmen?

I remember watching something about 1 male and 1 female mini bugman anime when I was younger. The show was very very old, and the style reminds me of Tatsunoko, can't remember the name though.

Does the male-female android combination reference a tokusatsu or anime character?

I know Godannar does that but it's relatively new. It has to be something from the 60s-80s.

The only "two in one" old heroes I know about are Barom 1 (which was formed by two male characters) and Ultraman Ace (one man and one woman, at least in the beginning of the show). None of them are androids though.

Personally, I liked Captain Earth. I liked it the least out of all other Bones mecha shows I've seen, and I was a bit disappointed with it, but I liked it nonetheless.

It's not necessarily bad, but it had all the ingredients to be good and just went absolutely nowhere with them. As these guys >>13401882 >>13401900 pointed out though, the animation was absolutely pornographic, so I'd rate it on the same level as, say, 0083. Mishandled plot with lots of eye candy.

I liked it a lot until the last 5 or so episodes. The poor end game combined with the realization that I didn't give a fuck about the villains (Puck was hilarious though) left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

It also had a slow pace through the entire series and it never really amounted to anything. It did have good parts though.

Not really, all the references have been fairly obvious thus far and it mostly toys with general superhero tropes anyway. As others in the thread have pointed out it's very much like Samurai Flamenco, but takes its premise at face value and runs with it.

Episode one is ok
Episode two is messy
Episode three is when it starts coming together
Episode 4 is pretty good

Main problems with some of the episodes are the transitions between time periods. You have no idea whats going on in the future portions until the episode is over.

That's one of its strengths. How the flashforwards slowly build up to a bigger picture like a puzzle. It's great.
