So I don't post in the general ever, but I figure this would be the best place to ask.

What is with the wierd filter on all the Heisei shows from Kuuga to...I think Kabuto. It wasn't present in Showa rider shows and I'm pretty sure it stopped by Den-O. But in those shows between everything looks hazy, like there's a camera technique they were using in the time period.

which is exactly my issue with W's 49. The entire episode makes 48 "Sad for the sake of sad" and not "Sad for the sake of things being beyond everyone's control like a definitive tragic moment" because his sister could have revived him at any point through the whole year he was gone. Philip is literally only revived because Sho cannot keep his mouth shut, because in that episode he's written like he hasn't progressed at all. It cheapens the entire thing, personally.

Speaking of couples in W, though;

Has anyone noticed the previous episodes are doing the 'establish the supporting characters before truly moving on with the plot' arcs?
Episode 2 was an Akari focus with her establishing her character as a science pursuer while episode 3 was an Onari focus with him establishing his place in supporting Takeru.

With episode 4 being Specter focus, I bet episode 5 will focus on Allen and the old man mctooth

Drive's police did nothing because they had nothing early on, but when they did get something (the anti-roidmude bullets) Chaser got his Rider form so we had to deal with all the Chase Gou shit and didn't have time for Police.

Put tomari dying and becoming Tridoron, then having the Roidmude generals get their evolutions, then have Banno become Gord Drive. There was no time for the police scenes.

I think all we saw post-Type Tridoron was a scene of 4 officers killing a single bat roidmude and then KR Jun (Which was a joke suit)

You say "even Kuuga", but Kuuga is pretty much the only series where the police in general was active and reasonably competent. Agito and Drive have one competent special unit, and outside of that, even when the series remember them, they're just useless since they don't want to give any focus to them.

Having nothing but disposable Riders is really no different than the generic monsters of the week from a storytelling standpoint. It'd all end up being the same shit. Ryuki and Gaim's approach works better because you have loads and loads of Riders but they all get development by butting heads consistently.

I think Nira shooting Shin's dad and then him most likely dying a while later primarily because he couldn't get proper treatment right away due to being in the middle of a bank robbery is just enough to get by. OOO had brilliant colour design. The only form I disliked was Super TaToBa, and to be fair it was meant to be futuristic and different. Considering the Google/iOS/Microsoft switch to big bright unshaded colours, they did pretty well with predicting it.

I actually really liked the idea of the colour changes, provided that they had some meaning. Swapping weapons was pretty much pointless though, and they dropped the whole thing after the powerup. But it's a neat effect, I liked seeing the same suits/characters in different colours and they used it really well back when you couldn't stay one colour for more than a few seconds in a Shadow Town.

Also I really wanted them to do a Red-exclusive powerup, where it's exclusive to whoever's using the Red train at the moment and not Toq-1. That'd be a nice way to get back at him for non consensually switching lines so often.

I prefer the way they did Shadow Moon, as a character with Rider powers but who isn't a Rider.

I mean evil Riders are a bit contradictory anyways. A Rider is supposed to be someone who fights for good, fights for peace and justice, fights the battles that no one else should. Having people who call themselves Kamen Riders yet act villainous defeats the entire purpose of the name. I get that it's for brand recognition, but for me personally it's something that makes no sense to me.

It's like he was originally supposed to be a cartoon character Roger Rabbit style, but then the budget ran out and they had to do the next silliest thing.

Good luck with Blade himself. His Figuart was incredibly popular and sold out hard. It goes for almost double the original MSRP nowadays. There's a Broken Helmet variant that's less expensive, but it doesn't come with the sweet rider kick effect parts and broken ground piece the original had.

I think a semi-subtle motif of Ryuki not a lot of people spot is what makes me okay with "Evil" Riders. Riders fight for justice. The thing is... justice can be subjective. Different people can have different views on justice.

Shinji's justice? Avoiding the tatakae

Ren's justice? Save his girlfriend, then save his best friend

Asakura's justice? Get rid of the stench surrounding you with the only thing strong enough: Blood

As a result, it's a nicely deconstructive thing.

Though I do think Shadow Moon shouldn't be a Rider because he's not particularly seeking a justice of his own. But after Black... aside from some Decade stuff he's not entirely evil. In the DS beat 'em ups, after he fights whoever you're playing as if it's not Black, he'll admit defeat and ask for you to tell Black Sun to come fight him. It relays the message at this point, he just wants to settle what their destiny entails. Though you could spin that as his own "justice."

Ryuki's relatively dark at times (Like everything to do with Asakura) but it's surprisingly one of the more subtle deconstructions I've seen while maintaining a light-heartedness that's hard to maintain. There's a lot of stuff going on with Ryuki that'd take a couple of essays that go in multiple different directions to explain, but my point is everyone involved DID put a lot of thought into the show, as much of a cash-in as it was.

Garren's price is because he only came bundled with the bike. That said, he's also getting a broken helmet release in January. It's an exclusive like the Blade one though.

I wish those broken helmet versions came with normal helmets. I like their paint job more than the normal ones.

There's a Blade on Mandarake for 4000 yen although: (opened/box damaged/sticker used), there's also a Jack for 3500 and a Broken Helmet Blade for 3000, didn't check their condition.

So I just finished Kuuga and I remember reading in one of those trivia collections that Godai was originally supposed to die. I'm actually curious as to what you guys think. Should that have happened, or was the series' ending the better choice?

Personally, I'm torn. That happening would have been akin to Blade's ending (I watched Blade before Kuuga), which just wouldn't seem fair after everything. On the other hand, it would have been really fitting, given the lead-up. I know the final episode is structured to make you believe it until the very end, but, in a way, I actually liked the idea that while everyone else thinks Godai has gone off on an adventure, Ichijou is the only one who knows the truth.

I liked the idea of Poseidon/Aqua, Ankh's appearance was cool, Birth and Birth Prototype Fighting alongside each other was cool.

My only real complaint was that the Births didn't really have any effect, but still.
