shitty would not be the word to describe him, but more like "basic" compared to rest, since he was meant to be the most toyetic as the lead. I feel that Survive fixes him up a bit, especially the head and eyes.
The fact that he had the dragon as his contract monster is what gets to everyone, since he has one of the stronger Final Vents in the show (usually a one-hit KO) but he mostly uses it against monsters. He has a powerhouse to begin with, but his skills and determination to fight were holding that back, even if that slowly does develop (and drops like a rock every 2-3 episodes).

I don't really think that it 'drops like a rock', it's more like Shinji's the type of guy who keeps switching majors in college and wasting shittons of money doing it except instead of majors it's ideals and instead of money it's lives. That's a better way to put it. He always goes around in circles when it comes to how people's actions influence. Sometimes he feels like fighting other riders, or stop monsters from killing people, or not fight at all while Ren progressively grinds levels or hunts other riders. I think the best way to watch this development in such a battle royale is to see how everyone progresses, then look out for times when their paths merge.

Summary: The students of Kanta Elementary ask for the Mysterious Phenomena Researchers’ assistance. Their mothers have been protesting at the construction site for the new City Hall that would close Kanta Elementary until an invisible force shot at them with a gun. The way everyone shittalked this I was expecting a travesty like Taisen GP but it was actually pretty decent. It was a neat story, and other than that weird last minute reveal of what I'm gonna assume was just Great Leader in disguise, nothing really stuck out to me as bile worthy.

Rider 4 himself was pretty wasted though, what with his not appearing until halfway through episode 2.

That's kind of the whole point of Ryuki though, it's not about the flashy fights but rather about the characters and morality. You have, for the first time in Rider history (or at least TV Rider history), actually evil Riders, and Shinji's pretty much the only sane guy who's doing what a Rider's supposed to be doing, protecting people, and getting shit on because of it.

Hell, it was Kobayashi's first Rider, so lots of weird shit and all, but it's a continually running theme of her Rider shows, the main character cares more about protecting people than about beating up the bad guys.

Oh yeah, I wasn't complaining it at all, just throwing in my thoughts on it. I think Shinji's a pretty underrated MC even if he can be annoying at times and his development does indeed inch along slowly since it comes in increments instead of epiphanies.

I'm kinda fine with the colors, my biggest gripe about it is the ridiculous hand that just sorta hangs from the tip of the gun, since you apparently can barely have weapons that don't transform into multiple forms in Rider anymore.
It's like the problem with transforming mechas, it's hard to make all forms look equally good and not like the other form was just folded in a weird way to resemble something else.

They'd better make it more like Gokaiger than like Decade if they do. Get actors from those shows in to do tie-ins, instead of the world-traveling gimmick that shat on all the previous Riders short of a handful of them.

I still think Inoue got a raw deal on that, dude loves Rider and got to be the anniversary Rider, but they fucked him over with Decade.

The color scheme and head are fine, but damn, that lifejacket onesie armor looks retarded. I know they were probably trying to giving him something that looked different from Stronger's triangular vest while still giving him that kind of 'look' around the shoulders, but it really didn't work.

Isn't Takeru pretty much doing exactly what the ganmas are doing? That is to say, infusing them with certain ideas/emotions by ghostly means. Is the whole hugging thing still kinda stupid? Sure is. But it makes a little more sense to me now. Takeru's ghostly hugs probably drown them in a "Pls dun gib up on life" feels.

What is objectively the worst Hesei Rider show in your opinion?

Fair enough. I personally think that the problem lies with there being too many mostly superfluous form changes to begin with.

I agree, though it's not so bad when there's decent weapon variety. Wizard abused the gunsword thing to hell and back which made it extremely samey. At least with Ghost the Gangan saber's alternate melee modes (dual, naginata) are cool to watch.

I'd rather it be a cheerful show than a gloomy one. I don't really think Rider's ever really 'dark' either- it can touch on some horrifying things or deal with some serious subject matter, but there's always enough optimism and energy to keep it from being grim.

The design didn't transfer into a real-life concept well. It was restrictive and cumbersome, but worst of all, way too heavy to be used practically. It was wearing Takaiwa out.

Emperor Form was introduced out of necessity, it was much more streamlined and easier to wear.

Diend did fight and actually seemed very powerful for a while though. It was only when Yonemura took over the show that he started doing the whole hit and run thing over and over in the final few episodes and movies (although he also jobbed in the Kabuto and Shinkenger arcs before that).

Well it's starting to seem like there's more than just a wish if all 15 are gathered. The hermit mentioned that reason Specter is involved is because of what happens to the 15. Quite possibly part 2 of the plot will involve all of the Riders intertwined in a convoluted plot.

I think a way of avoiding that problem would be to not make the form she uses obviously feminine, she can have curves and all that, but what form she uses should also be made to look cool with the other riders. With what they are trying to do these past couple of years with the whole interchangeable playability, it would be counter intuitive not to. You see how Kiva's chest is this huge hunk of muscle plastic and that giant hunk of metal on his right leg isn't on Emperor?

Those are the big problems. Kiva's base form basically physically locked Takaiwa into a certain shape for his back, which doesn't work when a lot of his movements are supposed to be hunched or slouched. Very bad for your spine, so about early on they had to compensate with wirework before finally just givnig up and designing EMperor with multiple plates on the front to allow for free movements and lighter-weight materials on the legs.

They then had to use those design features in mind for Dark Kiva and Saga.

You can see where the budget went.

Did they use actually metal for the suit? I thought they just went with foam or that material they make indoor playgrounds with and then painted it so it looked metalic/hard.

The Ganma so far seem like they're either made from a dump bin or so cluttered design wise.

They seem like throw away Sentai monsters of the week, rather than Rider monsters. I know Showa had some pretty "out there" designs, but this isn't an excuse for why the Ganma mostly look like shit.

This might be where I was spoiled by Drive and Gaim's creature designs, but it just seems like Ghost's Monster budget went to down.

I tend to like designs that have simpler silhouettes, and the Undead just had too many spikes and bits hanging off of their designs for my tastes. I miss simpler designs like the Unknown from Agito.

For me they've got something Rider's been missing for a while, playfulness. Rider monster designs always leaned heavily towards whatever animal or object they were based on and where as the Ganma have this much looser adherence to whatever they're based on.

Him and Another Agito got it the worst, if I remember right. It's why Gills Exceed was used in Decade and why we've never seen Another Agito again. Plus they're both secondary Riders, so they have less of a chance of showing up in Taisen movies.

I like that the Ganma have vaguely similar basis as Ghost with the coat things and historical figures motif. Very few series actually convey that the heroes and villains are similar despite it being a thing for Rider in general.

True but the difference is hardly noticeable, the changes are just so minor it's lame. Also the new color scheme just looks ugly in my opinion.

Now if we're talking best final forms I'd probably root for Kuugas. It might just be a black / gold Kuuga with spiky shoulders but it's strikingly and noticeably different, it looks gorgeous and the way they handled his final form is top notch as well.

Infinity doesn't use Dragon Parts except for movie finishers. In show it just wrecks shit with a giant axe.

The only way for Ghost to use all the weapons is if he wears them as the gadgets attach to the GanGanSaber on the same spot. And doesn't look like the Saber and the Sunglass Rusher can combine as their hilts are similar. So we might be safe from all my powers combined.

Ultimate Kuuga is entirely different, being pretty much entirely armored with not smooth "undersuit" visible like his other forms.

As much as I love Godai and Kuuga itself, it's the only show that's actively making me fall asleep while watching it. The characters are nice and all, but the show is too low-key and there's nothing engaging going on between fights. It feels somewhat like real life, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there's no force behind it.

There's nothing wrong with FRIENDSHIP, and it's definitely one of my favorites just because the Rider is so likeable, despite the plot suddenly finally fucking happening in the final arc. Miu loving Gen came out of fucking nowhere too and felt forced.
The other post-Decade Heisei is spot-on though.

Around Episode 30 or so the head writer/director/producer/whoever the fuck it was got fired because 1) the show was tanking in toy sales, and 2) they were constantly over budget and behind schedule. The new heads of the show basically didn't give a fuck about anything the previous ones did and everything cool that they had been setting up more or less got thrown out the window and the entire story was changed.

It is sort of fitting, all in all.

The two of them survive centuries as the world descends into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Kenzaki having outlived countless people he cared about until he just couldn't bring himself to care anymore, while Hajime continued to try to live as a human, helping people - all the while the two of them were aware of where the other was, but could never meet up because of the monolith's douchebaggery.

Kouta was willing to die to force Micchy to see how far he had fallen. He was CONSTANTLY putting his life and well-being on line to protect everyone and try to find a third option that would allow him to save the world.

Remember at the beginning of the series, all he wanted was just a regular life and to be able to handle the responsibilities of an adult life. He gave ALL of that up to become Fruit Jesus and end the Helheim invasion.

Godai's resolve and strength is far superior than Kouta's, that's why. Kouta could never bear the burden of Ultimate Kuuga because his very nature is to fold beneath the weight of his cares. His heart is too soft - it's literally his thing that set him apart from all the other competitors for the Golden Fruit.

For that matter, Godai most certainly did not just "walk away from it." It traumatized the shit out of him, damaged his Amadam and he almost died along with Daguva while fighting him on even footing.

Kouta barely edged out a win against Kaito while getting the shit kicked out of him towards the end because at the end of the day, Kouta's resolve was only good for a last ditch effort of desparation.

Visually it's pretty awkward and cheesy, and not in the way we usually prefer. It's a low-budget Christian propoganda show trying to capitalize on Power Rangers, there's very little effort put it.

As shitty as Taisen GP was, Rider 3 himself was a pretty cool guy. Same for Rider 4 who didn't do much but managed to be an awesome, humongous prick in what short time he had. The only reason Nekrom's play the Ore jingle is because they aren't even meant to be used in that Driver at all, and it would be stupid to program a new sound entirely for something that will never happen. I'll believe otherwise when I actually see a crossover Ghost Change happen.

You can definitely feel that. The players are introduced and everything kind of just happens for no real reason. Maybe it was just the shitty subs but I don't think they ever even mention why GOD was looking for Keisuke or his father, and he never bothers to mention his run in with them at the beginning either. Also there's just suddenly a man made island that explodes into a secret marine base because why not.

That's pretty much the case I have with Kiva. It really has a lot of good elements to it that's just drowned out by the melodrama and people discussing it usually focus more on the latter.

I have a hard time putting Kuuga or Agito in the same tier as OOO and Blade. I think the first two a pretty overrated and the second two are my all time favorite series.

Yeah pretty much.

For Faiz I love the suits, and think Takumi and Kiba are really, REALLY good protagonists. I just hate almost every other character in the show and wanted to murder Kusaka at multiple points.

As for Wizard, I was really frustrated that no one had any opportunity to get any meaningful, lasting development, and the power-ups, while looking cool, were tied into little character bits that were never brought up again and made the whole thing feel very aimless and boring. Fights again were pretty great though.

Hibiki is weird. It feels really nothing like any Kamen Rider series before it. I hope TinyHenshin have some subs to release of it by this decade so I don't have to use TV-N.

Kuuga was the first Rider series I watched all the way through and I credit it with getting me through a pretty bad period of depression, so it's always got a special place in my heart.

Conversely Agito I only saw for the first time over the summer, I put it off for so long because the premise didn't interest me at all (fuck amnesia plots. Fuck them straight to hell), and after watching Faiz I was wary of trying anything that had Inoue's name attached to it, but I really fell in love with it when I gave it a shot. The mystery plot proved to be pretty gripping because unlike Faiz, all the characters are actually likeable and I enjoyed watching all their interactions.

Because it gets used almost exclusively after Tomari gets it, and at that point all the end-game Roidmudes have ridiculous power levels.

Funny though, according to official stats it's one of the most powerful Rider final forms just going by baseline numbers.
