I didn't know anybody else liked the Death Army. I ended up getting three as a kid because they were the biggest shelf warmers of the MSIAs at the store. They seemed so unloved.

But it was cool because I had them as goons for my Ground Gundam and GM to fight.

Depends on your definition of "better". Spec-wise it's going to either be the Zulu or the ZAKU. The GAT series was higher spec than the Ginn, and the ZAKU was higher spec than the GAT series. Zulu is the end-point of the tech creep of early UC so it's naturally going to be higher spec than Zaku III which is higher than Hizack, which is higher than Zaku. The Zaku II actually had lower performance than the Zaku I but was more mass-production-friendly (i.e., cheaper). Leo is the first mass-produced MS so it's going to be the bottom end of the tech tree. The Death Army were all antiques that had been possessed by the Devil Gundam and we literally saw hundreds of them destroyed by an old man with a scarf. They're massively outclassed by every Gundam Fighter, and the only thing that makes them scary is the fact that even though they suck there are a shitload of them.
Can't really make a call on the Jenice. We know that Gundam development in the 7th Space War was far beyond that of early UC so it may be a newer unit that might outspecs the Zulu or it might have been an old relic like the Zaku I, we just don't know.

Is the Borjarnon considered a new design, or is it just a Zaku with a diferent name? Because it looked just as agile and mobile as other Moonrace designs.

The Tieren really, though the Fanton is probably more comprable to the Zaku since it's main armament melee armament was the carbon halberd rather than the carbon chakram.

But in general the Gundam 00 mono-eyes have a real lovely mechanical design to them that emphasizes vehicular or machine attributes, rather than the more humanoid and organic designs of the early Zaku variants. The Zaku Warrior on the other hand looks way too much like a toy. The Leo has the mechanical attributes as well, but it's a very boring, simplified design while the Tieren and Fanton are busy and fun.

Hell, the RX-078 was outclassed by 0083. Even the RX-178 was pretty shit, seeing as it basically had the same specifications as the 078 but with a couple of upgrades and mass-production capabilities.

If you'd played Alpha Gaiden, you'd know that "their time" is Zeta era, because Alpha 1 is screwy and had events from Zeta, ZZ, CCA, F91, Victory, 0083, 0080, and 0079 happen at the same time (but was supposed to be Zeta era).

Of course you'd also know that the Borjanons are both stronger and more mobile than the GM Customs they have in game (and the GP-01 Fb, at that), making them look rather silly, but that's really besides the point.

The Jenice can slide alongside the ground like a Dom... but that's pretty much it. Its standard armament is pretty bad, similar to the Zaku II's (physical machinegun, heat axe).

It has a few good showings though, but they're all tied to custom units. The Saterykon's Jenices are shown spinning around and are very agile, even though they're all piloted by nameless grunts. There's a red one in the first episode that takes a hit from a 300mm cannon just getting the arm damaged (not even completely destroyed), and then there's Ennil El's Jenice in the final few episodes with beam weapons and improved hovering.

Forgot about the 2 chest mounted machine cannons, although it's hard to judge how powerful they're supposed to be since they were basically never used by "standard" units.

They couldn't do anything to Crouda armor, but those things tanked even bazooka shots.

I wish they were consistent with their weapons though, never see that gigantic zaku machine gun the kai uses, yet there are smaller verisons of it used by the F2.

Although I am currently rewatching Zeta and gotta say the Hi-Zack, and Galbaldy Beta and Marasai are good looking suits.

No HGUC 1/144 kit of Galbaldy Beta though fuck.

The 90mm gun? I'm pretty sure it's the same size and they just scaled it down because they realized a 90mm gun shouldn't look bigger than the 120mm gun.

Also doesn't help that the actual zaku machine gun has a few iterations itself. The OG zaku machine gun is quite short in a carbine style. Then there's the MMP-78 that's a little bit more beefier and has that western style stock (lol).

Don't get me started on the UC beam rifles or later UCshows where every mobile suit has its own unique weapon. Gotta sell toys I guess!

Why? The Cait Sith or the Wuxia are more suitable candidates for main battle MS.
Just because it looks more in line with the Zaku design doesn't mean it plays the same role.

I kinda like the Leo the best. It's versatile, customizable, and has a simple yet pleasing aesthetic. Some of the other grunt suits can look a bit over designed.

Though it was mowed down pretty easily by the Gundams, the base chassis was used for the more dangerous grunts later on in Wing, like the Virgo series and the Serpent.

Personally I cant stand the idea of the Jahannam as a mobile suit, but I think the same design would make a for a bitchin combat armor for ground Infantry or shocktroopers.

Why not? Both were intended as the new mainline grunt in the late stages of the war, and were the first grunt designs of their faction to have beam weapons as standard. How many other Gundams there are doesn't change that it's a Gelgoog expy.

I hated the DINN at first, then I played sdgo and pretty much every DINN variation was on a scale of good to S rank performance, B rank cost. AWACS was my favorite though.

In sdgo? I was a C rank which is basically grunt tier, had good weapons, and a skill of varying use depending on your skill level. Towards the end of sdgo's life it was considered a good C rank for ladder matches precisely because of its weapon loadout and AWACS skill

On top of having some of the best functionality with their open backs to equip different backpacks for different situations, these losers just keep getting back up despite again and again no matter how much you knock them down.

AWACS lets the team see enemies on radar, so it's a pretty useful skill. Its weapon set was also one of the best for C-ranks.

You know it's funny, everyone gives Wing shit for Leos exploding by the dozen, but am I right that I remember a lot of the later Grunts to actually be threats? I seem to remember the Taurus and Virgo causing a lot of trouble when they first came onto the scene.

The Taurus was generally pretty effective, with the mobile doll version being more so. Virgos tore through everything that wasn't an upgraded gundam and the planet defensors made them basically immune to conventional beam weapons (though not lasers).
