There are too many different kinds of mech designs to come up with a single set of criteria that wont just stifle a good design you didn't think of.

In general, as long as it's not a cluttered design. I'm not sure how to quantify what makes an asymmetrical design good or bad.
But mainly individual taste.

It's hard to quantify exactly what makes something good; there's no checklist to go down, it's a matter of execution.

The key thing for anything animated or video in general is that it looks good in motion.

While a full body inner frame isn't mandatory, I always find it's a nice detail when bits of it are visible through the joints or vents. Helps with suspension of disbelief a little I suppose? I also like how 'organic' it makes the robot look especially when it is really detailed like Nagano's stuff. <3
