Im on episode 33 right now. I like it so far. Aside from the recap episodes everything is pretty good. The music is haunting. The fight scenes actually use some semblance of tactics, and it pretty well paced.

It's pretty bad, but the mostly decent music and choreography, note I didn't mention actual animation, for most of the fights seem to blind people. I say this as a person who has watched the series twice and loves the mobile suit designs.

I noticed no one sings it praises beyond superficialities like "the pacing is good" or "Uso is based" (truthfully, he is). Actually examine the story and characters, there's nothing of worth to be found when put alongside Tomino's other Gundam works (not counting the abysmal F91 and ZZ).

The suits are the best in the franchise, I think, especially the Victory Hexa.
Plus I think it does good at showing a handful of civilians trying to not get killed and fight off a huge enemy early on, not sure if it keeps that later though.

Probably part of it, the positive Tomino era began after Victory, it's easy to see why he would regret Victory. It is a good show in a lot of ways, but perverse in many senses of the word.

I disagree. I thought the fact that almost everyone in the higher ranks of BESPA was crazy as fuck was interesting. And it's rare to see a sci-fi version of the Reign of Terror.

One thing I did dislike about Victory was how mobile suit reactor explosions were suddenly a big deal, when it really wasn't as relevant in previous series.

Victory-era Mobile Suits are much more powerful than OYW-era ones from what I can tell. Even the vulcans are on-par with OYW Beam Rifles, unless everyone started making their MS out of tin foil.

I dunno, Marbet's great. Some of the side characters are fun like Jun, and Odelo has some nice development. And Fuala is delightfully crazy.

It's not one of my favorite Gundams but discounting G and Turn A it's probably the best part of the franchise the 90s had.

Light armor. Regardless, vulcans being able to get through their armor isn't an indication that they're on par with OYW beam rifles. RX-78-2 was eating a 120mm machine gun without damage.

I wouldn't call her a good villain. I did like how she was actually better than Uso and how he was getting progressively better at predicting an enemy's movements by fighting her. V2 vs. Gengaozo might be the best battle in the series.

Cronicle is just there, all of his goals amount to nothing and not in a way that makes for a thematic resolution. He just looks pathetic. He did, however, go out with a decent showing against Uso, and he's actually a great pilot. I liked how he died.

Katejina had actual potential, but Tomino didn't care to elaborate on her character in any other way but her delusions of grandeur and acceptation of Zanscare's bullshit (she just parrots it, though).

I'm shitting on Victory a bit, but it has its moments. It's just hard to reconcile with the amount of times it dropped the ball. Favorite Haro moment?

It was less that it was bigger than other mobile suit explosions, and more that it was on the ground inside the colony when it exploded, so it blew a hole in the side of the colony.

Being pathetic is part of Cronicle's character. He spends his entire military career being reliant on other people to cover his screw ups while getting outplayed and overshadowed by most of the other Zanscare characters. He's a decent pilot but he basically has his position by virtue of being the brother of the Queen. Even in his last moments he cries out for his sister to save him. He's not actually a bad person though, he just happens to be unsuited for politics and war but he's too blind to realize it. He's basically what would happen if Garma was the rival.

Katejina is hinted at being a selfish jackass even in the beginning. She's resentful of the success of others and is completely unable to understand why Uso would actually want to risk his life to help other people. She just buys into Zanscare's philosophy because it lets her act on her resentment of those around her and live out her power fantasies. This is why her ending is supposed to be worse than death for her: she's still the same egotistic, angry person at heart, but now she's completely reliant on others around her just to live her daily life.

Tomino was really brutal to Victory's characters in general. I actually liked what he did with Cronicle and Katejina, but the resolution of the show is pretty bleak, so I can see why it might have felt unsatisfying.

Fuala, Junko, Juca, Katejina, etc. are all Wrong Women. Marbet, who becomes a mother to Oliver's baby, is not. She's the only one who does it right.

Looking at it from just the surface, it's unbelievably fucking stupid. Uso shouting "she's a WOMAN" off screen immediately afterwards with Fuala screaming and then the Haro eye catch makes it even funnier. This perplexity causes her death.

also if you paid attention, they make a point of saying stuff like "we shouldn't trash mankind's creations just because we can" and "gotta protect the environment, reactor shots are prohibited".
