All things considered, the dub wasn't that bad. I liked Dr. Hell, Baron Ashura and Professor Yumi, and Kouji wasn't too bad either. I feel like the biggest problems were with pronounciation. Who the hell pronounces "Tetsuya" as "tet-SOO-ya," or "Sayakka" as "sai-YA-ka?"

Honestly I still hold out hope that Shin Mazinger will be dubbed so that my normie friends will watch it.

The Japanese version may have been accurate to what was originally in SRW, but the Toei voice just doesn't work with Kouji's redesign or Mazinkaiser's more menacing appearance. It's like whenever SRW puts the Toei Getter cast in Shin Getter Robo. It never works, and I can never take it seriously.

Dr. Hell's voice was goddamn fantastic in English. More like him, please.

I thought this at first, but it really grew on me. Even though his design is based more on the manga, Kaiser Kouji still looks older than Shin Kouji, so hearing an adult voice isn't unreasonable.

Despite some translation errors I really enjoyed Mazinkaiser and Shin Getters dub. Much like Mark Gatha in G Gundam, those guys really nailed the shouting and screaming one looks for in a giant robot show.

I just don't see any reason to watch a dub if you're capable of reading. It makes the most sense to watch a show in its original form or as close as you can get to it. A couple of lines on the bottom of the screen are maybe just slightly intrusive, while a dub replaces the entire audio track which is half of the experience. It totally changes the feel of it.

It makes sense to watch the dub in certain specific cases, like this one. Tried to watch the original, didn't enjoy it. Then there's certain shows where you're so used to the dub because of what you grew up with that the original is hard to stomach. Tomokazu Seki as Domon sounds alien to me. And then there are certain shows that were clearly intended for a western audience to begin with, such as Space Dandy or The Big O. In that case, the dub is the language it's intended to be viewed in.

Is Dr. Hell voiced by the same dude who did Professor Saotome in the Shin Getter OVA? He sounds pretty damn close.

I like the Ashura dub. Whoever they got to do their voices just totally went for it. You can't half-ass classic super robot shows. Either you go full ham mode or don't even bother.

Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter Robo/Armageddon had really well done dubs. For all the shit I give ADV, they were great at going full ham back in the day.
